Born to Read
Research has shown that reading to children from birth impacts positively on the relationships they build with family, their ability to develop conceptual awareness and oral language skills, and assists in preparing for school; ultimately resulting in a positive self image. Patterns are harder to break when children have begun school.
The project
Born to Read is a community initiative to promote the importance of reading to children from birth in the town of Condobolin NSW.

The program provides books, support workshops and literacy information to the parents of all new born babies in the community encouraging them to read to their child from birth. Each year the child receives a new book on their birthday until they reach school age.

The program is supported throughout the community by Baby Health Centres, Medical Centres and pre-natal clinics in the area.
