Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) Newborn Care Clinic - NSW

RPA Newborn Care is the intensive care unit for sick and premature newborn babies at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. RPA is the largest maternity hospital in the State of NSW with approximately 4000 births annually.

In addition to caring for babies when they are in the hospital the Newborn Care Clinic also runs a high-risk developmental follow-up program.

Staff report that a significant number of children cared for by the clinic do not have a book at home, nor do their parents understand how important it is to read aloud to their children. Part of the follow-up program focuses on early literacy and provides a kit for parents to take home including a book; age related reading tips and information about the importance of reading from birth.

The Dymocks Literacy Foundation supports the RPA Newborn Care Clinic by providing books and information about importance of reading to children from birth.
